New genome editing resources for patients and families
The National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Medicine have published a new guide on genome editing for patients and families affected by inherited diseases and disabilities. The guide uses non-technical language to explore the recent developments in genome editing, including a glossary of the technical terms, and explains how genome editing may help to treat some inherited diseases in the future. Some examples of clinical research and the stages that these studies are at are given for the US. All clinical trials taking place in Europe since 2004 are registered in a database. The guide also includes advice on how to get involved in the discussion about genome editing.
